On November 17 of 2016, Forsyth County started to build the new Alliance Academy for Innovation, which is set to open in August of 2018, and it’s located at 1100 Lanier 400 Parkway off Ga. 400. As well as the academy being built, there will also be a Junior Achievement Discovery Center, which offers middle schoolers a taste of what the academy has to offer.

The Junior Achievement Discovery Center will act as a field trip for middle schoolers, and will focus mainly on financial education. The students will spend the first 15 weeks at their middle school learning the curriculum, and will then go to the center, where they’re given scenarios to figure out how to manage their money properly. The center will act as a model of Atlanta, with banks and restaurants included. Students are given a job and a role in a family, and have to manage their finances to prepare for them for real world scenarios.

Alliance Academy for Innovation will school upwards of 1,200 high schoolers from grades 9-12 in a career focused environment. The school will provide education for individuals and small businesses and corporations beyond middle and high school, as well as business and financial training for middle and high schoolers where they can earn college and industry credit and experience. The career programs at Alliance are criminal justice, health care/first responders, mechanics and engineering, logistics, energy and aviation, hospitality, and design. However, the school does not offer extracurricular such as band and sports, but will offer clubs, such as HOSA.

Since the project began, Dr. Jeff Bearden, Forsyth County Schools Superintendent, said that many partnerships with other schools such as Lanier Tech and University of North Georgia have opened up. This school seems to be a success in the making that will provide new and unique opportunities to Forsyth County and it’s community that have not been seen before.
